What a great first week back Sycamore Class have had! The children have returned to school ready to learn and we have been really impressed with how hard they have been working. In science this week, we began looking at our new unit, plants. We were learning about how plants grow from bulbs and seeds and what they need in order to germinate. In maths we have begun learning about fractions. The children have been learning how a fraction is a part of a whole and have been learning about halves. It was Sycamore Class's swimming this week. We were lucky to have wonderful weather for our walk up to the pool and the children all really enjoyed their lesson. This week we have begun listening to poems by Michael Rosen. Our favourite so far was 'Don't'. Can you find a new Michael Rosen poem?

What a lovely final week of the term Sycamore Class have had. On Monday the children were very excited about the arrival of our class 'pet' Pedro. They have been working so hard so that Pedro will sit with them on the carpet or at their tables! In our English we have been reading the text The Black Book of Colours. The children enjoyed learning about how the book was written about a boy who was blind so 'saw' colours through his other senses. The children created their own colour descriptions and came up with some really beautiful descriptions. On Thursday it was the Easter service, which went really well. The children sang so beautifully and we were really proud of the children that did readings. In science we explored the wilderness for creatures that might be living down there. The children had a really lovely time and found lots of woodlice lurking under logs as well as spiders, ants and worms. We hope that the children have had a lovely half term and hope that you have a wonderful holiday.

Sycamore Class have had a really lovely week this week. We have had two trips out of school which has been fun. On Monday we visited Northam library. The children enjoyed a story by the librarian, Jack, and then had time to explore the books and choose some to bring back to school. We have put these in our reading shed outside the classroom and it has been lovely seeing the children enjoying them during reading time as well as before and after school with little brothers and sisters. On Wednesday it was our swimming lessons. Swimming is always a highlight but this week seeing children's excitement when they kept their feet up off the floor or managed to tread water for the first time was just wonderful. In maths this week we've been learning all about volume and capacity. The children have been exploring containers. I wonder if you have any containers at home that you could explore?

Sycamores earned their class treat this week; they opted for a toast party. The children have been working very hard to gain all their seeds across all subjects. Mrs Buckeridge and Mrs Smyth are really proud. The children have been busy gathering information for their non-chronological reports in English, they have each chosen an animal to research. The children are beginning to complete 4-part instruction questions. This has been an interesting challenge! In Science, the children have continued to enjoy learning about how animals are adapted to suit their environments. They are developing a good understanding about the different features some animals have to help them to survive. E.g. A polar bear has a thick layer of white fur to help keep them warm and provide protection as it can be camouflaged again the snow. Ask them if they can remember why frogs have eyes on the top of their heads or why camels have thick eyelashes.

Sycamore Class have had a super week this week. We have been particularly impressed with their listening this week. In our English the children have been busy writing up information pages about our planet. They are doing a super job with this and we can't wait to see them finished. The children thoroughly enjoyed their science this week, where they were learning about how animals are adapted to their habitats. They had so much to share in this lessons that we continued the next day! On Wednesday it was Sycamore's swimming. It was great seeing all children having a go in the big pool! What a great week it has been. We hope you have a wonderful weekend.

Sycamore Class have had a fabulous week. In our English, we have continued to learn about information texts. The children received a note from Juro8 explaining that he wanted to learn more about different things on our planet. The children have been working hard to research these and make notes in order to create an information page. In RE this week, we learnt all about the events of Holy Week, the week leading up to Easter Sunday. The children were able to order the events and explain what was significant about each day. Thursday was World Book Day and what a fun day it was! It was great to see all of the children's fabulous costumes and have a day filled with book related activities. In science we have been exploring habitats and microhabitats. The children enjoyed searching around the school grounds to see what habitats they could find. What was your favourite part of the week.
